Overview

The first step in the methodology is to identify the vital services that need to be documented. This process involves evaluating the criticality of activities within the organization. The list of vital services is an input to this end-to-end methodology[1], and architects create an ArchiMate view to represent these services in the model.

Criteria for Identifying Vital Services

During the identification process, the RISK ORM team, along with other operational risk management actors, considers several criteria. These criteria include financial impact, regulatory impact, and reputational impact. The methodology provides detailed guidelines on how to assess the criticality of services based on these criteria. Architects can refer to this policy to understand the criteria and their implications.

Documentation of Vital Services

Once the vital services are identified, architects document them as ArchiMate Business Services. Each service is assigned attributes such as name, category, owner, and description. These attributes provide important information about the service and its role within the organization.

A single view is created[2] to make the list of vital services easily accessible. This view should show the services' key information in a simple way (see example below).

The documentation of vital services serves as a reference for stakeholders to understand the criticality and dependencies of each service. It provides a clear overview of the organization's key activities and helps in prioritizing resources and risk management efforts.

Example: List of Vital Services

Modeling Guidelines

⚠ Modeling rules
  • Vital services are modeled as ArchiMate Business Services
  • Each service is assigned attributes: name, category, owner, and description
  • A single view is created to list all vital services with their key information displayed in a simple, accessible way
  • This view serves as a reference for stakeholders to understand the criticality and dependencies of each service
  • The list of vital services is a mandatory input to the end-to-end methodology

Footnotes

  1. The list of vital services is an input to this end-to-end methodology. It is usually provided by the RISK ORM team and operational risk management actors.
  2. A single ArchiMate view is created to make the list of vital services easily accessible, showing services' key information in a simple format.
